Turkey plans to uplift ban on headscarves in Universities

Turkey prides itself as being the frontier of an islamic country embracing democracy. France and other european countries are also symbols of the so-called ‘free world’.

What i’m confused is that, why are headscarves banned from schools, parliaments, etc anyway? I mean, if it’s democracy, isn’t it about choice?

Sure, the idea secularism aims to completely separate religion from state. What, if i was a woman, find wearing a headscarf fashionable. What if i see headscarves serves as a symbol of my individualism rather than religion, can you prevent me from that? Won’t preventing me from expressing myself go against the idea of democracy and that is freedom of self expression or freedom of choice? What’s the difference between this and jewellery?

What if a christian wants to wear a scarf for the chic look. Is that still considered as a ‘religious symbol’?

I just don’t get it. It just shows that the idea of banning people from wearing personal religious symbols is crazy, whether its the headscarf or the yarmulk (jewish skullcap) , especially in democratic countries.

Ndaaa ku paham. I don’t understand.

I was always a fan of how Bill Clinton delivers his speeches. His charisma radiates around and the energy pierces through everyone.

It’s no surprise that he earned US$31 million dollars from 2001-2005 just by giving speeches, which each speech averaging at $125,000. What a dream job, paid to rant all over the world. London School of Economics grabbed a bargain when they only paid $28,500 for his speech in 2001. Maybe UBD, with royal connections, could grab a bargain as well. Who knows, he might have a profound effect on fellow young graduates.. and maybe show our current ministers to stop giving prepared speeches and start aspiring. Don’t get me wrong, there are a few who give really good speeches but on most part, it’s masuk angin, keluar asap.

Although it’s really none of my business, i’ve been following the American primary elections (Although it does affect us all, i’ll be damned figuring out what will happen to the world if another dickhead republican, unless its Ron Paul, wins the white house next year). The most recent was the South Carolina contest, where Barack Obama has emphatically won.

Below is a link of a video of his victory speech in South Carolina

Speech

What a speech, amazing energy. Arguments he brought up has also struck me greatly, a change against conventional wisdom and practice, in line with the loud chants of the crowds and the massive banner on the back that screams out ‘CHANGE’. Aku plang yang goose bumps. ;)

Cafes and meeting places to close at midnight

I think words, cannot describe at how angry i am with this decision.

This is obviously a ‘pull out of the ass’ decision. This decision was made without the consult of local businesses or without even considering the consequences that will happen. A ’suka hati buat’ decision. There’s no investigation to study to effect this decision. If there is, please, i want to read it.

Do you know why a lot of young people fuck up? Do you know why a lot of young professionals are so eager to go outside of Brunei? Because we are sincerely bored. Activities all around have effectively been banned/ raided/ etc. There is simply nothing for people to do. We’re not even a nation that concentrate efforts of co-curricular activity for our young students, which makes them even more bored. Young professionals are earning a lot of money but they fall short on what to spend it on!

Moreover, i am SAD. Is this a way forward to future constitutional monarchy of Brunei. We’ve spent $100 million on our parliament building, for fuck’s sake. This decision is NOT a sign of progress but a sign of PARANOIA and SUSPICION. To have this rule imposed on me, i feel sad and offended.

People feel more secured if they are trusted

People feel more happy if they were asked of their opinions first before decisions that affect them are taken.

People will be more understanding if you have LOGICAL justifications for your actions

Is this logical? Consulted? or an act of Trust?

I want to shout to these people

ACTIONS WITH JUSTIFICATION

Shocked to hear it..

(*phew*… at least he finished filming Batman)

Some of you might think that i’ve lost steam in posting up in my blog. Well, yes and no. I’ve been spending my daylight hours in the library doing work. Sigh.. the stuff i do just to prove myself..

But anyway, i’m not really losing steam. Because instead of furiously writing up rants for this blog, i’m also tediously putting up an online diary for the progress of my research, something which i have to a lot to talk about. It’ll contain a lot of basic info and knowledge about the oil industry (snore!).

Why i do this? I’m sick of people going around and yapping like experts about how Brunei is going to run out of oil, etc. Newspapers have been screaming “dwindling oil reserves”, just because pro-green adverts have brought this term up. With the increasing oil prices, do you know that there is a possibility that reserves may increase instead? Why? well, wait for the site. Are reserves in Brunei really dwindling? well, just wait for the site.

Of course, i’m not going to write like a professor or anything. I’ll still swear a lot, because i like to, because it relieves my stress…

Plus,i tend to have fucking bad memory when it comes to remembering back my thoughts, so its a diary thats open to all! =D

But anyway, yea.. thats what i’ve been up to. I just feel like sharing my knowledge.. bye!

On your visit to a crowded day at the swimming pool, you might not notice this, but you are experiencing one of the most interesting social dynamics, it is very similar in fact to the animal kingdom. Instead of a savannah, you have a 5om long swimming pool (which is poorly cleaned, i might add).

You have this scenario, an open and public place without restricted access. One good, the swimming pool. Of course, we’re slightly more civilized than having male individuals give off a loud roar and thrashing the water to kick out other swimmers and claim the territory. BUT it gets close.

On the shallow end of the pool, you have toddlers and little children hanging around. You also have a number of adults, who are also in the water, who keep a watchful eye on the toddlers, while they themselves occasionally splash some water over themselves to keep themselves wet and cool.

This section is very much like the elephant herd of the savannah, in terms of the social bonding with infants….. and as well as the size of the adults themselves. 99% of the time, these people are content to stay there and do not venture into the deep end.

Unfortunately, cameras aren't allowed in swimming pools.. this will hav eto do for illustration..

Unfortunately, cameras aren’t allowed on pools… this will have to do..

The ones that are adventurous however, venture to the middle part of the swimming pool. This section is inhabited by gentle creatures. Mostly females and other younger males who are not so confident to venture into the deeper waters. If you think girls here are underaged, you are most definitely right so stay the fuck away from them. Unless, of course, you’re into that sort of thing.. in which case, i think you are sick. Brave, but sick. but It’s not bad when you think of this way anyway.. when you get to 30 years old, they’re 25 years old, thats quite common… yes? no? ……?

…. ANYWAY

If the swimming pool was like a the lion king cartoon, then the deeper water section of the pool is the darklands where the Hyenas hang out. Groups of young adolescent males hang out in these dark waters. They dont swim, they just wait at the side of the swimming pool. Curiously they submerge just above their nose level and stalk on the females on the mid section.

They also laugh like hyenas and make a lot of noise, which is annoying. That brings me to the point, how can you just spend 2 hours just standing in the pool? i mean, you gotta have at least swim a small distance…

An amusing sight that you see in swimming pools are when ‘peacocks’ appear. In this case, the name can be shortened down to just ‘cock’. These are the guys who come down to the pool, with a look and whiff of arrogance. They put on their speedos and racing swimming goggles. They start to stretch and grunt heavily signaling their presence and intentions to enter the pool. Like a challenge call to the alpha male to claim territory. This attracts attention from everyone in the pool. He slips into the pool stealthily.. almost without noise, like an alligator. Puts on the goggles and starts flapping his muscular arms. Just a few metres away from the edge, theres an incredible outburst of water. Figures… the cock was drowning.. and so everyone continues on their business in the pool.

Walking back from the library in the quiet university campus, i was walking home behind this attractive girl.

Minding my own business, she looked back and saw me and started to walk briskly away.

…I think i really need to start shaving the beard…

I was going for the George Clooney look in Syrianna… APPARENTLY NOT!

I’ll post up rants and opinions soon but i just wanna share these videos with you guys. I can safely deduce that Thais makes the best damn commercials in the planet.

These videos are short, so even espeed users will be able to watch it. The one below is just ONE of the many that could be found in youtube but this one cracks me up badly

Airul is in deep mourning.
