Honest.
I came across this when i was in Melbourne last week at Syaz’s house. She had the program book for Brunei’s 20th national day celebration 2004 just lying at her dining table. I was flipping through the pages just to pass the time and i saw this unbelievable error..
“ehh.. apa ah flag Russia? ani kah?”
“eeeh.. atu holland tu… apa tu ah… ada bah pernah ku terliat masa anak ku main game Command and Conquer bah… aah ni naaaah!! Bah, print tia slajur, nda payah check lagi.. kul 3.30 sudah, kan ambil anak ku dulu.”
*smacks a Soviet Union flag*
I can’t imagine how people on the grandstand reading this actually reacted to this during the national day parade 4 years ago. LOL, man, i love this country.
One of my greatest weakness is the tendency for me to recall the most embarrassing the most moments in my life. I would have these flashbacks of these really embarrassing moment and i would just crumble and mentally collapse. I don’t get this effect when i think of things that make me angry cause i’ll tend to calm down quickly and think of arguments or logic that would make me win next time =D
One of the most embarrassing moments that i recall very often was an incident that happened about 3 years ago. This was during the first week of my junior and housemate, Yoshi (i won’t give the full name but to many, it is obvious) arriving in Sydney for his studies. He had his parents tagged along to help him settle so the parents were there everyday in our apartment that time. Yoshi’s dad is also a company man, so the scholars here got a treat for dinner, which was awesome.
I remember there were a number of us at the apartment that night who hung around before the dinner, yosh’s parents where there as well. When it was time to leave, i was just browsing around the shoes that were at the door (at the living room where everyone was). There were sneakers around and i noticed immediately a pair of tiny lady sized shoes. I don’t know why but i quickly assumed it was ummi’s.
So i put them on, and exclaimed to ummi who was about to grab her shoes as well “EEH!! DAMIT JUA KAKI MU, UMSS HUHUHUHU” and i sorta did a silly penguin dance with those sandals on. Then ummi looking confused, started putting on a pair of CONVERSE SNEAKERS.
“EEhh!! those converse are yours???”
Ummi: “Er… yeaa…”
“So… if those are yours… who’s are these…?”
I looked around the room and saw yosh’s mother staring at me in plain sight. Oh my god, i wanted to kill myself. How could’ve i acted so STUPIDLY? Dinner that night was awkward for me to say the very least.
Whenever i walk to uni or anywhere, i tend to daydream as well. and i absolutely HATE IT when my mind starts to recall embarrassing moments like these. I’d get so embarrassed that i’d just start to shout out random thing.
“PLOI, JUBUR AMBUK KALI EHHH!!!!!!”, scolding myself at acts of stupidity.
So if you catch me in that crumbling mental state of mind. I’m not crazy, don’t mind me, i’m just overly embarrassed.
After 3-4 weeks of insanity. Hours in front of the pc, i’ve finally made a WORKING model for my WAG simulation. It was ridiculously hard to make it without any help and i never thought i could debug it. Here’s a short video of the simulation, i don’t really care if anyone understands what’s it about but hey, enjoy the pretty colours!! wheeee!!
Woohoo, going to Melbourne to watch the F1!! F1, baby! F1!
You guys didn’t need to know that. I just feel like sharing the joy, woohoo!!
Finally, decent holiday
I hung out with my 3rd year juniors at a very busy (and noisy) restaurant. There, they had a massive plasma screen tv and CSI was on. But they don’t really turn up the volume or the volume would be inaudible.
What’s the point?
I hate it when they also put on the music video channel but the speakers in the restaurant pump out different music than what is shown on the tv.
It’s one of those things where i feel like i it’s such a waste of time. At the same time, you can’t help staring at the tv because it just grabs the my attention. Figuring out the plot for CSI just from the actions feels like a stupid thing to do.
I started the first day with German classes on the whole day. I got to say that German is a very interesting language. It doesn’t sound as flamboyant or smooth as French but the words are a lot more closely related to English. (This is because English, German, Dutch and other Scandanavian languages belong to the Germanic English family, just found that out..). Anyway, i’m not gonna rant about the history of the language.
I took another language course because a lot of girls take languages. I remembered French class were just overflowing with women, most of them brunettes. German didn’t disappoint either and strangely enough a lot of the female students were blonde. Coolies.
What i also notice was the German student crowd are also full of wankers. I mean, it was only the first lecture, then this student (presumably a first year cause he looks like an absolute dickhead), actually argued with the professor about why english and german languages belong the same family. First of all, wtf? Why are you here then, die spacken?
I don’t know why, but in a language classes, there’s also at least one over enthusiastic mature butch (yes, butch) who say unnecessary things in an attempt to help out the lecturer but ends up slowing down the class anyway. One of the most memorable ones from last year:
Lecturer: “To do more reading in French, i suggest you go to the Le Monde website and read the news there, i will show it to you”
*types in http://lemonde.fr on the browser and some butch interrupts*
Butch: “Prof, i think it’s suppose to be http://www.lemonde.fr”
Lecturer: “Really, it’s okay, i think it’s the same anyway”
Butch: ” ’cause it’s the world wide web, you see, hence, why you should put www in it”
she ends up explaining to the lecturer how to enter the www in the web browser
oh my god, some should’ve shot her at that instant..
This morning was no difference, this butch actually stopped the lecturer from continuing and started arguing and talking to herself to understand the material. Whaaat? Okh, i’m sick of uni already because of these dickheads ruining my lectures.
I was reading up on Brunei Resources’ post on the legislative council. In one way, i’m real glad that we’ve kicked start a parliamentary. In other, i’m not really sure about having appointed members running for parliamentary.
One thing i really wish that they put up are HOT OF THE PRESS transcripts of what happened in the legislative council sessions, i mean, most of these sessions happen when people are working anyway so it’s not like we can just pop into the debates and skive work. Or maybe store videos of session online and broadcast them on late night tvs, just like American C-SPAN and the Australian ABC channel.
What struck me when reading Brunei Resources’ post was that the issue of that damned Muara to Temburong bridge was raised up in the council session again. This is what you get when you have appointed members, i guess. Who posed that question anyway? what a waste of time and a $100 million parliament house! what about questions crime, unemployment, crazy police raids, teacher and equipment shortages in schools or even bureaucracy of the system? Why didn’t he ask those questions? As soon as i get the right to vote, i’m voting his ass out, man.
What shocks me more is that the poll on BR’s site said MORE than HALF said build the bridge now.

Whaaaaat?
Are you people crazy?
Building a bridge, by the way, is expensive. Building a 25km bridge is very very expensive. Building a 25km bridge over a massive and deep stretch of water like the Brunei Bay is very very very very expensive. At least B$1 billion. In this case, it would probably be a good idea to not think using your asses, people.
I HATE it when people say “oh, it would bring in a lot of economic opportunity to the Temburong district”. The question is, to what extent? Unless massive oil reserves are found in Temburong, how can we really justify building a $900 million – $1.5 billion bridge? With people whining “EEEHHH MAHAL JUAAA” if a $50 toll was smacked on the bridge just to recover a fraction of that investment.
How much can that bridge achieve more than spending about a small fraction of that fully implementing e-access to Temburong for road users, a bridge for that freaking small river and having more organised boat services? Won’t that actually encourage more small and local businesses? as oppose to a $1 billion debt for a stupid bridge just because people are whining about it?
Do you know what you can do with $1 billion? You could…
- Complete roads and highways all across Brunei and maintain them for a very long time.
- Build a university, or expand UBD to offer courses, attract the best minds to teach and have much more money to build youth centres.
-Finance our HEALTH or EDUCATION system
- Capital to acquire foreign assets or massive tax breaks for businesses for killer growth
- Expand Petroleum Brunei to a full fledge Exploration and Production Company, get the best skills and technology, acquire exploration rights in other countries and maybe still get enough capital to develop it.
- For fuck sake, you’ll get more money back if you simply put $1 billion in a bank.
- So much more
So how the fuck does a 25km bridge top those options?
