I hung out with my 3rd year juniors at a very busy (and noisy) restaurant. There, they had a massive plasma screen tv and CSI was on. But they don’t really turn up the volume or the volume would be inaudible.
What’s the point?
I hate it when they also put on the music video channel but the speakers in the restaurant pump out different music than what is shown on the tv.
It’s one of those things where i feel like i it’s such a waste of time. At the same time, you can’t help staring at the tv because it just grabs the my attention. Figuring out the plot for CSI just from the actions feels like a stupid thing to do.

Having the TV there just adds to some ambience to a place (sometimes people just turn on the tv without watching it, which I sometimes do with the volume muted). Also, most people don’t go to restaurants to watch television.
Having the tube on with the audio from a completely different source does irk me, though.
