I read with embarrassment the news that relate to the football situation in Brunei.

Give me a break, people. There’s no need to create a power struggle if there isn’t any. This is not politics, this is called a playground argument of who should be the head of the see-saw equipment. BAFA, the registrar of societies, ministry of culture youth and sports, the new football federations, who is who, makes me sick. I’ll give you my opinion, all of you are pure 100% premium grade idiots.

What is the hassle all about anyway? The more this fiasco moves along, the more i am convinced that we are a nation who really can’t run things. If this is what happens in football, then imagine how we run things in flood management, wealth management and road networks planning?

oh wait.. *palms face*

As far as i am concerned why was BAFA deregistered in the first place anyway. Aside from not sending minutes of their AGM and financial statement, what else is there? Who has time to read all of the society’s reports anyway in the home affairs ministries? with that much scrutiny involved, you’d think that we’d be safe from financial scams that plagues our nation anyway. If theres a group of guys who are enthusiastically in playing scrabble, why the hell would you want their annual report. Fuck me if id find out a scandalous operation going on with subversive elements running in a scrabble club.

This issue also exposes how whiney people can be as well. The BAFA association still insisting that FIFA recognises only them, etc. Please, don’t complicate things if theyre not complicated. and b) I think we should realise once in a while, that these are times when we should let go. Wait, who forgets to send in their AGM minutes anyway? Are you THAT BUSY, BAFA? This is a flashback of the Olympic fiasco we had for Beijing 2008. What the hell are you people doing anyway, no wonder we’re still ranked 192 in FIFA.

I think all of you should just start a brand new piece of paper. Registrar of societies, piss off. Ministry of culture, youth and Sports; please come to work full hours, at least. and plan for the bloody London 2012 olympics. BAFA, get over it, move on. Form a futsal club, get another job or something, whatever.

Does it matter a lot? Of course, i think football in Brunei matters. For anyone who was extremely lucky enough to witness Brunei winning the 1999 Malaysian cup, i haven’t seen such level of national pride in my life. I have never seen this nation pulled together in unity than the time we won the Malaysian cup. Football fields were packed because kids played wanting to be like their heroes, people actually looked forward to going to work because of their mood and our form of entertainment was way cheaper because we didn’t rely on debt crunching consumer goods to keep us excited.

At darkening times like these, the nation needs confidence that it can do things properly. Bringing victories through football is one really cheap option. Cause hell, we need heroes

Beijing pulled off a fantastic olympic opening ceremony. In fact, the best i’ve seen next to Sydney. However, all of this is marred by the fact that it was announced that Brunei was excluded from the march and the olympics because they could not register on time.

I watched countries, like the Cayman Island, Malawi, Papua New Guinea, Eritrea. Countries that are either too pissed poor to develop or are smaller than Brunei. As poor or as lowly populated as they are, they have managed to send in at least 5 people to every olympics to participate in several events. Olympics after olympics, we’re sending in only 2 or so. In this olympic, we’re not sending any because we’ve failed to register. As the IOC has put it “the IOC tried until midday Friday to have the National Olympic Committee of Brunei Darussalam register its athletes, but to no avail.” – China News

The IOC were the ones who tried to contact Brunei? we’re not even trying! This is ridiculous! Why are we the only IOC member not competing?

If we can’t even organise ourselves for this, such a simple thing to do, we could afford it even. What in the world can you do? You need a damn good explanation, especially that this bungle was witnessed first hand by his majesty in Beijing.

No more dodging issues, no more finger pointing, no more “sshh.. sensitive issue ni, diam diam saja”. Hard straight facts are needed and we’re not a bunch of nodding thumb sucking monkeys, oh no no no.

If it is incompetency, someone needs to go out.

I usually don’t post up too much of the personal stuff but this is a big exception. People who know me well might raise an eyebrow with this post.

would never have been possible without you, god. Alhamdulillah.

There is no one and nothing that deserves more for my gratitude except for you. Humans have and would turn their backs on me at some point but my prayers and wishes just keep getting granted regardless of my defiance and ignorance.

For those who do not believe that you are the most gracious and most compassionate are eternally regretful.

and please god grant me wisdom to deal with extremists who are making air travel so much more damn difficult and inconvenient

I’ve gotten more environmental conscious lately. Whenever i tell people that i study petroleum engineering, i get occasional gasps and comments how environmental unfriendly these kind of jobs are. I’d put on my petroleum engineer image and brush off those comments.

But to be honest, i think those people who make those comments should be ashamed of themselves. Blatant hypocrisy! I think the world has a problem of viewing petroleum engineers as nose picking trolls who mine the deep ends of the earths and cart out barrels of oil and charge exorbitant amounts of money just for endless hours of after work orgy parties (sometimes i wish this was the case). And who are we really doing these things for? You, motherfuckers, you!

There is a global outcry of how oil prices are over the roof. A sign of our outrageous thirst for energy, luxurious and excessively affluent ways of life. We demand this, we demand that, we demand those things and a few more of that thing as if it was made by gay faeries blowing pixie dust while clicking their heels and chanting magical words, “Iggidity diggity poo, the skies are blue, it’s gonna be a shoe, designed from Jimmy Choo!”.

It’s ridiculous, and at the same time, the same people condemn oil corporations for exploiting the earth because we are motivated by our excessive profits. Where did those profits come from? You!

I’ve been reading the news of how there are awareness campaigns to point out Brunei’s excessive ways. It’s about goddamn time. Massive crowds come to the energy awareness festivals and left the place with long queues of vehicles, that burn petrol and release more CO2 (We’re aware but what’s the point?). We could start by calling anyone who owns a gaz guzzling SUV, like the hummer, a wanker.

This whole Brunei energy consumption thing has reminded me so much of back when i was a kid in Ugama (religion) school. My school is a normal primary school in the morning and turns into a religious school after 1pm ( i went to a different primary school). Whenever i come to class, i’d see a lot of food in plastic bags just sitting in the corner, uneaten and left to stale until the school cleaners takes it away the next morning. Pretty awesome, i always thought that it was unfair that students in government primary schools get free food of a piece of cake, an apple and a box of sweet drink for lunch while my dad paid thousands to a private school who didn’t even have a catering option. Anyway, I thought that hurling apples at poor victims below on the ground floor was frickin’ hilarious.

I mean, what are the bags of food doing here in the classroom anyway? obviously morning students didn’t give a shit about that. Even with the free food, i knew students would rather flock to the canteen to buy junk food and drink over-sweetened can drinks, which would end up fucking everyones health. Now that i’ve grown up, i found the behaviour appalling. I still feel guilty about wasting food that was given for free just so lil kids could keep up their concentration in class and build a better future for the country.

How is the petrol price situation any different?

Petrol is cheap, petrol is used to fire that engine to blow that air conditioner because you’re afraid to get sweaty, petrol is awesome. I have a job, i get a car, obviously a second hand is so yesterday so i buy a new car that is not only inefficient and in excess of what i need, i buy a car that is way outside my budget. I am 90k to 150k in debt for my car. I buy a loaf of bread and a pack of tic tacs and i insist on having a plastic bag. The geometry of the bag of bread makes it difficult for me to carry and i’d sound like a tambourine with the tic-tacs rattling inside my pocket so i need a plastic bag. Why oh why should i grab the bag on one hand and carry the tic tics on the other when i can carry EEEEEVERYTHING…. with one finger. I am heavily in debt, i am wasteful, i have no money left to build a house to shelter my children but i have an awesome car.

THIS is what fuel subsidy does to us.

It’s ridiculous to see people who can’t afford it, buy brand new cars to add to their collection. We‘re also the 6th highest CO2 emission per capita in the world. It’s ridiculous! Fuck the fuel subsidy and let the market run it’s course. Petrol is B$2.00 per litre here in Sydney, that’s about $90-100 for a full tank of fuel. It’s got quite bad in America, GM has axed 4 SUV factories and concentrating on medium sized, more fuel efficient cars. Sydney has seen a rise in small highly efficient cars.

Come on Brunei, i say fuck it. Let’s double the price, close our ears, wait for a few months and see what happens. If this doesn’t rise the cost, make people find cheaper ways to travel or at least save their electricity bill and change the way we spend, then we are truly the richest people on earth.

Tiger penis wine? Why tiger penis wine?

Danish Press Reprints Prophet Cartoon

What are you guys? 8 years old? What does reprinting the cartoon actually do? Show solidarity of freedom of press? My ass. Solidarity means to bring together people, would showing cartoons bring people together? it’s just tearing people and societies apart.

Wouldn’t solidarity involve a joint effort with the danish muslim and muslim worldwide to condemn this issue, rather than insult them again and again??

First of all, what is really shown in the cartoon? The cartoon is undeniably offensive to muslims, do you guys even realise that fact? By reprinting it, it’s not a stand for freedom of press, it’s saying, “Hey, let’s punish and insult the 1 billion muslims worldwide again just because 3 radical muslim guys wants to kill the the cartoonist.”

If that’s the case, go on, stick a Klu Klux Klan Logo on the aussie flag for the Cronulla beach riots last year. After all, the action of few justifies the spirit of many, is that what you stand for? Or now with the persistent attitude of the danish media, let’s label Denmark and Anti-Islam country. How does it FEEL to be labeled like that? Being labeled for something that you do not even believe in, just because those guys are called muslims.

Look at the recent news of the shootings at Northern Illinois University or the Louisiana Technical College, when was the last time you saw a news that stated “Christian Student Involves in Shooting”?

Sure, there is such thing as ‘freedom of expression’. Everyone has an opinion and there’s nothing you can do about it and you have to accept it, Muslims accept that. You can’t please everyone, yet alone make everyone happy. However, when this hate opinion gets published in the newspaper that is read by millions,  (make that countless newspapers), this becomes an entity or a collective message of HATE and propaganda. It’s not a stand for freedom of expression, it’s a stand to send a message of HATE. Nazism was after all, started from the propaganda of one man’s hate opinion, was it not?

Furthermore, It doesn’t make sense. The perception that Islam is a terrorising religion is simply because the action of the few (the radicalist) speak more louder than the majority. With bombings, suicide bombings and murders, what news can top that, those are the events that ride on the waves of news sensation compared to a multi-religious faith conferences.

Again, there are a billion muslims worldwide, a small percentage of that (even one percent) is such a strong number. Yes, there are violent protests around the world but don’t you think that if every muslim stood what these violent people stand for, all the embassies, relations with the west would be destroyed long time ago?

Coupled with a Dutch MP’s film to condemn Islam, this reprinting brings great sadness to the peaceful and true muslims worldwide. In addition, this will also bring greater hatred and resentment to the radical muslims worldwide. We are feeding hatred to the radicals which in the end will bite us all back, don’t you realise that.

And stop blaming the actions of the few as if all of the muslims worldwide hold accountable. We must understand that many people hold many interpretations of the Qur’an (Koran). For most muslims, the book is used for guidance to find peaceful and honest lives, after all, one follows religion to gain inner peace. However, for some few, skipping out or isolating a few sentences or verses without understanding the whole context of the chapter can mean something more destructive. These is how radicals monger their ideas.

For example, in Christianity, why is it that Catholics refrain themselves from drinking alcohol, while other christians freely drink them? Why do the church of latter day saints believe that the dead should be baptized? Why are there a lot of version of the bible, King James, New Testament. Why not stick to the Old testament, which is considered the earliest version? These variances represent a difference in interpretation of what the fundamental book stand for and it goes the same for Islam and the holy book for Qur’an.

One could simply read a verse and it might remotely say ‘you should kill’ but miss out ‘only if you have to defend yourself’ that’s found in the next sentence. This is an abuse of the book. If the west is really serious about stamping out extremism, then don’t do things that will set us apart. Work with us, share knowledge, educate the masses, build understanding and more importantly, get every muslim involved to condemn the radical jackasses who call believe that Islam is violence, whether they are muslims nor not.

Danish people need not to be sorry for their actions. If solidarity is what they want, they should bring us together and condemn extremists and condemn the danish press for utter disrespect. If people really do want to end extremism, how is this further provocation going to help things? Please, tell me. How is making hateful people become more despised of the western culture going to bridge the differences?

Are conflicts most peaceful to be resolved through more wars and conflicts or is it better to get everyone involved to root out the problems. Boy, for those people who hold high up int he governmental position, you can sure be pretty stupid.

On a side note: The Danish newspaper that printed the cartoons had refused two years earlier to publish illustrations deriding Jesus. Well, how about that.. how about that… It does tell you the hidden agenda behind the prophets cartoon…
